Boomhauer The Texas Ranger, R.I.P. King Of The Hill

Texas Ranger
Tonight was the one hour series finale of King Of The Hill. After 13 seasons, the trials and tribulations of Rainey St. have come to an end. I have to admit, I was (am) an avid watcher of King of the Hill. 90% of the episodes were real, in that they were something that most middle Americans could relate to. I was hoping for something really special for the series finale, but the only thing that came to light was the indication that Boomhauer is a Texas Ranger. I’m sure that K.O.T.H. will be readily available for many years in syndication (Adult Swim), but it would be so nice to see it get a reboot and end up on ABC, CBS or NBC with a whole new storyline or continuation of the past 13 seasons. Bill needs to find true love, Bobby needs to grow up, Lucky needs to win the lottery and Dale needs to get a job with the government. Mr. Strickland and John Redcorn were missing from the series finale, which was somewhat disappointing. K.O.T.H. was brought back from the dead once, let’s hope that maybe, that will happen again.

I’m not as keen on the Ranger thing. It doesn’t make sense. Since then, I’ve seen 2 re-runs where Boomhauer is bullied by cops.
One is the NASCAR episode where he races a plainclothes cop, who then tickets him and smashes his tail lights. The other is where a female officer, infatuated with Hank, threatens to ticket the other guys for public drunkenness, and they all run. There was also the episodes where a ranger investigates the murder of Debbie, Buck Strickland’s mistress. It seems like the fact that *Boomhauer* was a ranger might have come up at some point!
I think it’s cool that they tried to incorporate a noble profession for Boomhauer into the farewell episode. But this was obviously tacked on without much thought.

No, there are subtle hints throughout the entire series of boomhauer being a texas ranger. Texas rangers have statewide jurisdiction and thats why the cops wouldnt have liked him. But through many episodes, Boomhauer always proves to be the most trustworthy guy on the show. Even Hank has lied to Peggie about her gnome in one episode. I dont know if anyone remembers the episode where Peggie loses her money to a con artist. She goes to Boomhauer (despite them having no relationship) to go through the motel walls to get the safe. At the end of the episode she says, I knew I could count on you to not say anything. I think this was the only fitting occupation for Boomhauer. King of the Hill, I miss you.
