House Of Boyd: living life one day at a time…

What’s On Your Phone?

I remember telling my nephew a few years ago, when he bought his first PDA, that someday, we’ll be doing everything from our phone. Only, I didn’t know it would be so soon. For those of us who work in an industry that requires constant communication, our phones are our life lines. No longer the annoying buzz of the “beepers”, now, we can hear, see and interact in real time, from miles and miles away. If you don’t realize just how much you’ve become integrated with your electronic devices, unplug your pc, hide your cell phone in a drawer and walk away. See how you can last without your electronic sidekick. So with that, I was wondering what people have on the main page of their phones. Those buttons that keep them just one click away from their data stream. Here are some screenshots of both of my phones.

Once you slide to unlock, you’ll see the welcome screen which gives me a quick glimpse of the time, current weather, text, email, voicemail and calendar. And from there, it’s on to the main program screen which remembers the programs that I use the most. Windows Mobile is cool, but doesn’t compare to the functionality of the iPhone, so I’ve installed some apps to make it more “iPhone like”.
And now my personal phone, an iPhone 2G. Like my work phone, it stays locked when not in use. And with a quick slide of the unlock bar, the first page of my programs, the ones that I use the most. I’m really an application geek with both my Windows Mobile phone and my iPhone. I have 4 pages of apps on my iPhone. A couple of apps that I just can’t live without are the Slingbox player and Orb. Though there isn’t an Orb app for Windows Mobile, I can still connect through the browser. Both of these apps keep me connected to my home pc’s any time I want watch something on t.v. or view a video or photo that resides on my home pc.
So, what are some of your favorite apps?
